When it comes to purchasing a new computer monitor you may not know what you are looking for. A monitor is more than just a screen used with your computer, it is your life line with your computer. Just think if you didn't have a decent monitor and you were trying to read this, more than likely you would want to print it out so you would be able to read it with ease. Luckily, you can upgrade your monitor anytime you feel the need to do so.
When shopping for a new monitor you will need to decide if you want an LCD screen or a CRT screen. What is the difference you ask? An LCD monitor is a flat screen monitor that will take up less space on your desk or in your work area. A CRT monitor is the older style monitor that looks similar to a television. These CRT monitors take up more space on your desk due to their size.
LCD monitors also put out less heat and use less energy than CRT monitors. Also, LCD screens generally have a better picture than the CRT monitor. CRT monitors are generally larger in size, put out more heat, and have curved screens thus making the picture more difficult to see. Although, you can also purchase a flat screen CRT monitor, in which the screen itself is flat instead of curved, but the space on your desk will still be taken up by the monitor.
You should also take compatibility into consideration when shopping for a new monitor. Meaning, you should think about your workspace and what you will be using the new monitor for. If you work in a small area or just have limited desk space you should probably go with a slim design of an LCD screen. Make sure the monitor you choose will be compatible with your computers video card, in other words, the video card should provide the screen resolution that you need from your monitor.
Cost should probably be the number one thing to consider when shopping for a monitor. Many times you can find an LCD monitor for a decent price, but other times and depending on the size you prefer, these screens can be costly. It would be a good idea to shop around before making your final decision, if you can get the same product at a lesser value, why wouldn't you?
