Purchasing a custom built computer is a good idea when it comes to getting what you want. Although there are advantages and disadvantages of custom built computers, yet there also advantages and disadvantages of pre built computers. Let’s explore the options.
Custom built computers are built to your specifications. It is like building a house or a car you get want you want with the input of those who are working on it. With a custom computer you are able to explore your options of brands to be used for the motherboard and the case itself.
This will also allow you to have the computer built for what you need it for most. Want a gaming computer? No problem. Need it for work? No problem. Custom computers are easy to upgrade and repair and many times it is cheaper than a pre built computer.
The only disadvantage to purchasing a custom built is that some computer shops don’t offer any additional software or warranty. Other places do offer software upgrades and warranty at a small fee. If the price is right, why not go for it?
If you would rather purchase a pre built computer you can. Many times you can find pre built computers for as little as $600 and this will come with everything you will need to get started. Generally this is a bundled package which may include monitor, tower, keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Also included in this package will be the necessary software to get your new computer up and running right out of the box. Some pre built computers come with a manufacturers warranty with many being from 90 days to 2 years after purchase.
Major disadvantages of pre built computers are that once the warranty expires you may begin experiencing problems. Such as the computer crashes, won’t turn on, or something has broken internally. If this happens you are on your own to have it fixed. Having this problem fixed may cost more than expected. This cost could be kept down with a custom built computer, this is because computer shops that build the computers are able to get parts in faster and fix the problem faster. Whereas with manufacturers, you must order the part and patiently wait for it to arrive, this can take up to several days and even weeks, and once the part comes in you must fix it yourself.
Another disadvantage is that you can not be sure if the parts that have been used are quality parts. Some pre built computers have used parts in them, so who is to say that they will not go out or just stop working once you get the computer home and begin using it?
