What is a hard drive and how are files lost?
A hard drive is a "non-volatile" storage space designed to hold data. The data is stored on a magnetic surface which is called a hard disk platter. Data can be lost from the hard drive for many reasons, including the mechanics of the hard drive itself, and external problems. Most hard drives today have several moving parts which need to be carefully synchronized in order to maintain a constant spin rate, called RPM, inside your computer.
What is data recovery?
Data recovery is the process of retrieving files that have been lost or deleted which were stored on magnetic disks and hard drives. Data recovery programs and services are made to retrieve your files that have been lost due to computer crash or viral infection.
How does data recovery work?
The first step is in data recovery is determining the extent of the lost or damaged files. The data is then copied, or cloned, to new files. The actual process occurs when a technician secures the retrieved data from the copy of the damaged file.
Data recovery is not always hard to do. Many times you can retrieve lost data yourself. There are many resources you can use to do this, such as the internet which will have each step you need to retrieve your lost data. If this still does not fix your problem, you may want to try looking in your phone book or on the internet for companies who specialize in hard drive recovery. Many companies will fix your problem for a nominal fee. Although some may charge more than others, you should find a company that has knowledge in this area, don’t take your computer to someone who has not done this before, this could just make your problem worse.
