Canvas Art In The Noughties

The modern phenomenon that is Canvas Art has developed into a major international fashion movement in the avant garde sphere of the 'noughties', the term adopted to refer to the Millennium decade.

In the 60's all fashionistas were obsessed with the bright aesthetics of Pop Art, whilst the 70's saw the rise of the 'Flower Power' cult. The 1980's were dominated by the Punk movement and it's bright, stark monotones which evolved into the 'chintz' culture of the 90's. Today, the interior design trend of the noughties can be summarised by the ever popular minimalist laminate flooring and the rise of canvas art.

When canvas art first emerged it was a prerogative of the wealthy and was not readily accessible to the general populace. Times have now changed and it is now much more affordable and is a service offered by many more establishments.

Many retail outlets now make the movement of this type of art available to the average household and most hotel lobbies and football stadiums have examples of this art adorning their walls with personalised corporate designs. Corporate institutions have utilised the phenomenon as a form of advertising their image in a modern, contemporary and aesthetically pleasing method. Recently a market has developed for the rental of canvas art to companies which provides the organisation with a regularly changing visual advertisement to continuously attract the attention of potential clients.

One of the great services within the CA movement is that of personalised pieces. Household art can now be a personalised work of art at an affordable price. Many providers of CA now offer the customer the option of adorning their walls with a personal photograph on canvas of their art piece. There is of course also the option of having a professional photograph presented on the canvas, which serves as a unique gift of great sentimental value to the recipient.

As the popularity of canvas art is ever-growing, more providers have emerged that offer the services of producing it. Almost every fashionable home interior retailer now sell this artform off the shelf and supermarkets with integral photography departments offer the customer the opportunity to have their images displayed on canvases. Additionally, a huge forum of graphic design-based artwork has emerged, with contemporary, modern designs and images becoming very popular among the younger generations.

Today, canvas art internet companies are the leading providers of the art movement. With little overheads as a result of the lack of a need for retail space, such organisations can offer lower prices than pre-established photography companies who have branched into this area as a subsidiary service and offer a more specialised service as the production of canvas art is their forte. Specialist businesses offer better styles, grades, shapes and a wider product range than the general photography outlet.

Canvas art is a forum that blends the boundaries of traditional and contemporary art and merges them in a highly aesthetically pleasing, in vogue method. It can be argued that canvas art is quite unique in its ability to accomplish this, with a prime example being the famous Still Life by Van Gough being represented on a series of 5- split canvases. Such an image is very traditional but when employed within the medium of a modern piece, the results are surprisingly very aesthetic.
