To prevent it from losing fiber and fuzziness you use lightweight materials or cloth. But wool cannot be washed in machine. Either takes it to a professional cleaner or washes by hand and dries it.

Use low loft material for creating antique traditional quilt. The quilts can be made of 100% bleached cotton, or 80% cotton poly-filled cottons. Mountain Mist or Blue Ribbon Stearns are 100% cotton. 100% polyester material can also be used, Morning Glory or Glory Bee I. A lot of varieties are styles are also available.

Once the fiber is decided, consider backing. Yards can be purchased for backing. It makes easy to fill the quilt lengthwise and widthwise. A few pieces can also be stitched together to make it even. Make sure the backing matches your fiber. By choosing blocks and patches, you can spend time in making quilts.
