Most gardeners in Australia are of the opinion that the country's landscaped gardens are modeled on the lines of those in Japan and England. However, many plants that are indigenous to Australia, help make its landscaped gardens stand out. The ones that are explained here are only some of the numerous Australian species that gardeners can use for their requirements.

The Australian Botanical Gardens or the Department of the Environment and Heritage, run by the Government of Australia, can provide you with the necessary information on landscaped gardens in Australia.

The well-known genus Acacia forms an indispensable part of the landscaped gardens of Australia since amongst its many species, the famed Golden Wattle, is the national floral insignia of Australia.

There is even a Wattle Day celebrated annually on September 1 by the Australians. In fact, there are around a thousand known species of Acacia to be found in Australia and these are spectacular as garden plants. The flowers of the Acacia plant are organized in either cylindrical spears or bulbous heads. Based on the concerned species, the plants can have a small number of flowers, maybe 2-3 distinct ones or they can have up to 130 flowers. The plants bloom all through the year. Pruning them as often as possible will ensure the longevity of these plants.

Leptospermum, which are generally called tea trees, too, are widely prevalent in the landscaped gardens of Australia. They have gotten their name as the earliest settlers of Australia used the leaves of this plant as a tea substitute. Totally, there are around 83 species.

These tea trees make first-rate garden plants. They tend to have a snug, dense growth, and make attractive screen plants. In addition, they are strong, resilient plants that can flourish in almost any kind of soil.

Kangaroo Paws that dot the landscaped gardens of Australia are simply out of the ordinary. These distinctive and exceptional plants are sent overseas to almost every country. Based on the species, Kangaroo Paws differ in hues and tallness. The species referred to as Bush Ranger has beautiful orange flowers growing on slender stems to heights of 50 centimeters. It can withstand long periods of little or no rainfall and can stay alive in moderate frost conditions.

The species called Dwarf Delight has orange-yellow flowers that grow up on stalks to about 80 centimeters high. It survives for a long time.

Coming to Tall Kangaroo Paw, the flowers of this plant appear in a range of hues, particularly yellowish-green. This plant can easily be cultivated in different kinds of soil and weather conditions. It tends to flourish either in brilliant sunshine or semi darkness. In the case of Red and Green Kangaroo Paw, the flowers are in radiant red and green and grow on stalks to a meter in height. It lives for a brief period and is considered by botanists as falling in the annuals category.

Still another popular plant is the one known as Pink Joey. Its flowers are of a pale pink color and grow on spikes of 50 centimeters in length. This is also a tough, enduring plant. Finally, Black Kangaroo Paw takes to sunshine and does not develop properly in cool weather. The flowers and stem are enveloped in a thick covering of black bristles. A gardener has a wealth of details to unravel about the Australian landscaped gardens.
