Accidents in water are something we consider to be unfortunate for the victim. In most cases the one involved may be spending a holiday or having some fun time in the water. Reports says that an average of ten drowning accidents occur each day. It is alarming to know that on every four drowning accident, one has a victim under the age of 14. The number of children sustaining injuries is even more. Even the nonfatal injuries can cause serious problems in the future when it comes to drowning accidents. Many children reportedly had learning problems, malfunctioning brain and lose of memory after sustaining nonfatal drowning injuries.

Children under five are more prone to water accidents. Water accidents are different from swimming accidents. Falling into water bodies unintentionally and drowning could be called water accidents. This includes children falling into large buckets or even bathtubs. This type of water accidents accounts for the second cause of unintentional injury related death for children up to 14 years. When it comes to children under 4 years, accident occurs in swimming pools.

There are many causes for drowning accidents. If there is no pool barrier, a child can easily walk into the pool and have him drowned. Another reason is the absence of parental care. In most of the water accident cases the child has last been spotted five minutes prior to the accident. For a small child it needs to have someone constantly taking care of him, other wise there is the risk of such accidents.

There are many ways to cut down the rate of drowning accidents. The most important thing is to keep an eye on the child every now and then. Never let him go out of your sight. Whenever your child is near a water body, try to distract him. Give him some small works. For instance, ask him to play cards, or to watch television or do some reading. Never allow the child to go near a water body without having an adult in company. Give your child swimming classes very early onwards. Swimming is a wonderful exercise as well as a great stress revival. Try some water toys for your kid. There are plenty of them available in the market. Playing with the aid of toys in water can be less dangerous.

It is advisable to hire a professional to teach swimming for your little one. If you plan for a sea side visit never put the children alone in water. You can never predict how a sea is going to behave.
