There are good reasons to get an equity loan like I stated above but then again there are bad reasons. Don't take out an equity line to go partying wildly or to live lavishly, not smart, and don't use one to stay in your home because you are about to miss your mortgage again. Getting an equity line will only add to your stress and make your monthly payments higher by adding another bill in your collection of unpaid ones and eventually you will foreclose. There are other options when in need of saving your home; an equity loan is not one of them.

When you get a home equity loan you have the power to use the money how you want and where you want, which is why many people end up getting in more trouble then not, especially the financially irresponsible. If you are looking into getting a home equity loan make sure you use the money to easy your burden or increase the value of your home to get a higher return when you go to sell it. Use the loan to make you money; don't let them use you to own your home.
