I have yet to meet someone who has not had to fight a battle with acne. I myself have had a problem with breakouts since I was eleven years old. At twenty-three years old I still have the occasional breakout. This all depends on what I eat and my stress levels. The more sweets you eat or the higher you stress level may be the more likely you are to have a breakout.
Acne problems usually start when you go through puberty, for some it may start earlier than that. When you start to have breakouts, you know that you can stop it in its tracks. All you need to know is what acne is, what causes acne and how to treat it.
Now, what exactly is acne? Pilosebaceous unit, this is the medical term for acne. This name comes from the sebaceous glad which is responsible for producing sebum that may contain small hair follicles. These follicles don’t appear in a uniformed fashion making a “bump” appear on your skin. This also gives the bump a darker layer than that of normal skin.
Bacteria are also a leading cause in acne. Propionibacterium is bacteria that is on the skin on high humid days and find the skin to be a shelter for breeding. The bacterium participates in the growth of acne and gives a boost for the acne to cover many parts of the skin.
There is a reaction with the white blood cells that are present in the skin and the bacteria. This reaction allows the follicle cells to enter the skin breaking the barrier on the dermis. The white blood cells try and resist but the bacteria releases fatty acids and make the condition worse. Thus causing the skin to be irritated and have some inflammation.
If the follicle hair grows out of proportion with the skin this may cause a break in the sebum flow causing the sebum to stay in that area of the skin. With the bacteria and germs the follicle hair is cut off and begins to look like acne. Know that you know how acne is caused you can take the necessary steps to get rid of acne and prevent further breakouts.
There are many different types of treatments for acne, the best thing for you to do is talk to you dermatologist about potential treatments that would be right for you. Not all treatments are right for everyone, so be sure you get something that will work for your skin type and treat your acne problem. Once you get rid of your acne problem you will look and feel like a new person.
