Everyone has a temper, whether they show it or not is up to them. If you are a person that has a temper or has anger problems and would like to know how to control it, you have come to the right place. I am about to tell you five ways to control your anger. These steps may not work for everyone but they have worked for many people and may work for you too.
First, think before you speak. I know your parents told you when you were a child to think before you speak or my personal favorite “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all” (I still get that one to this day). You should think about these statements every time someone is trying to “get to you”. If you think about what the other person said or did you have a smaller chance blowing up at that person and making things worse.
Second, be more active. It is proven that those who stay active through exercise have less of a temper and anger problem. This is because exercising allows you to let out your aggression on the equipment not on another person. Staying active will also help you stay in shape and shed unwanted body fat and burn calories. This is a win-win situation.
Third, Relax. Even though you have something on your mind that has triggered your temper and makes you want to punch a whole in the wall, don’t do it. You need to relax. Take time to clear your mind about the problem. This step may also go with step number one thinking before you speak. Clean your house or take a walk down the street, or if you can take a long hot bubble bath or shower. This will help you clear your mind of anything that maybe bothering you.
Fourth, let it out. Don’t keep your anger bottled up inside, but don’t take it out on someone else either. Keep an anger journal to track of your anger situations. This way you can look back on what you were angry about and realize that it may have been something small that set you off when it really should have had no effect on you.
Finally, have fun with your daily activities. When you get mad about something take time to have fun and forget about it. When you are out and about doing your everyday hustle and bustle you tend to forget about what made you so upset to begin with. Although you may have road rage while you are out shopping, try to forget about that too. Don’t let Joe Somebody upset you just because he is in a bigger hurry than you are. One way to look at is that it is his ticket for speeding or whatever, not yours.
The most important thing to remember is that you are the only person that can control your anger. Others may set you off but take time to think about the five suggestions to control it. Most of all be happy, be healthy, and keep your anger under control.
