The use of aromatherapy has been around for thousands of years and is commonly known to holistic healers. Used in ancient times by the Chinese, Egyptian, and Greek cultures, aromatherapy consists of extracting oils from plants for medical and cosmetic use. The oils, such as lavender, are used to create a desired scent allowing your scent of smell to take you in a state of relaxation.

The term “aromatherapy” was founded by Rene Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist who dedicated his work to the healing process of essential oils found in plants, in the late 1920s.

Aromatherapy can be done in many different settings and does not have to be done by a therapist. You can so this in your own home at any time, when you feel as though you need to relax, just light a few aromatherapy candles and begin to relax.

Much of the basics of aromatherapy have been based on the belief that many natural organisms can help living organisms. This is done by combining different plant odors to stimulate a response in humans. Many scents may be unpleasant to you but may be relaxing to someone else. It is also know that many scents are associated with feelings and even memories. This allows us associate the scent as an active part of the environment and the effect it has on us.

Aromatherapy can be beneficial if used for relaxation. Relaxation will reduce stress and help with the overall level of health. This is because stress can lead to anxiety problems and ulcers, which are all known medical problems. Even though, many of the benefits may not have direct effects, you can still lower the amount of stress and help the body to heal.

Many health spas offer aromatherapy massage that will help you to relax your mind and your body. Yet you do not a massage therapist to gain this level of relaxation. You can do this at home. In fact you may purchase aromatherapy candles, body soap, hand soap, shampoo and conditioner at any store. Many stores offer these in a gift bag or at a lower cost if you purchase one or more at the same time. Then you will be able to relax in the comfort of your own home at half the cost of a spa.

Begin today by purchasing your first set of aromatherapy candles. Once you start using them you will begin to feel rejuvenated, less stressed and as though you can take on anything that comes your way.
