Depression is a mental illness and is known to be the most common treatable mental illness. It is known that over 300 million people around the world live with depression. Everyone experiences depression at some point in their lives and it generally only lasts a few weeks. The good new is that you can overcome depression and go on with your life being just as happy as or even happier than you were before.
Signs of Depression
With as many people who suffer from depression, many never knew the symptoms of this illness. Here is a list of signs to watch for so are aware when you are becoming depressed.
Noticeable change of appetite, weight loss not attributable to dieting or weight gain Change in sleeping patterns, such as the inability to sleep, Loss of interest and pleasure in activities you formerly enjoyed Loss of energy Feelings of worthlessness Persistent feelings of hopelessness Feelings of inappropriate guilt Inability to concentrate or think, becoming more indecisive Recurring thoughts of death or suicide, or attempting suicide (Note: People suffering from this symptom should receive treatment immediately!)
Melancholia (defined as overwhelming feelings of sadness and grief), accompanied by waking at least two hours earlier than normal in the morning, feeling more depressed in the morning, and moving significantly more slowly
Many times these few of these signs will show, with the most common signs being sadness and thoughts of death. If you are experiencing any of the above stated symptoms please consult a doctor immediately. Although you can try to over this illness alone, your greatest answers will come from your doctor.
Your doctor will be able to prescribe an anti-depressant medication to help you overcome these feelings of anguish. Without the help of a licensed medical expert you may only hurt yourself more than help. Consult your doctor about the signs and symptoms you are or have been experiencing. With out your help and consultation there may not be a cure for your illness.
