Chances are you or a family member is going to travel abroad for business or pleasure this summer. Most people dread a long flight in an economy seat especially if they are traveling with children. Following some simple tips can make the trip more comfortable.
Select your seats by consulting seat map guides online, especially if you are traveling in a group. You can request the seats you prefer while buying the plans. Sometimes getting to the airport early may help you get the seat you want. If you want extra leg room you can get the bulkhead seats or the seats in the exit row. Try not to get seats near the restrooms and the food prep area.
Carry a neck pillow, especially if you have neck and back issues. Use the pillow provided by the airline between your lower back and the seat to prevent a sore back. Do stretch to relieve and loosen your upper body.
Swollen feet can be avoided if you rotate your feet in a circular motion at the ankle. Stretch your feet and flex them often to keep the circulation going. Deep vein thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) is a dangerous condition that can be avoided by walking and moving around in the cabin every few hours.
In flight air is very dry so you must moisturize your skin often to stay comfortable. Use a damp face cloth sprayed with some essential oils to perk you up. Avoid alcohol and coffee and drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
Change in air pressure can be uncomfortable to your ears. Chewing gum can help relieve those symptoms. Take off and landing can make those symptoms worse; try drinking or eating during those times. If you already have a cold or an infection you could get an earache if you are not careful.
Wearing loose clothes in natural fabrics is key to staying comfortable. Your feet can get swollen so try to wear slip on shoes that are not very tight. A jacket or sweater may be useful if it gets cold onboard.
When you travel abroad buy health insurance to cover your trip. Travel can be covered if you include those dates in your insurance plan. Your visitor insurance agent is your best resource for selecting the right health insurance plan.
