With the hustle and bustle of today’s society it is no wonder that we try to find new and improved ways of relaxing. Since 2,700 B.C. the Chinese have used a technique called Massage Therapy to relax and heal the body. They also used this technique to speed up the healing process of illness and injury.
So what is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is the use of touch to soothe the body. With different strokes or movements on different parts of the body, you are releasing energy that has been trapped due to stress or illness. Massage also increases blood flow and many medical issues such as anxiety due to stress and depression, and can even lower blood pressure and heart rate. This technique will give you a sense of wellbeing and relaxation.
What comes to mind when you think of a Massage?
For me the answer is simple, I think of a spa. Many spas offer massage as a way to relax and unwind after a long day at the office. Yet many places offer the same massage techniques for various reasons. Some medical facilities offer massage, along with medicine, as a way to heal. These facilities include Intensive Care Units (ICU) at hospitals, nurseries, and believe it or not labor and delivery rooms during childbirth. This allows the body to over come pain, illness, and other injuries with a positive energy boost.
There are many different types of massage including Swedish, deep tissue, acupressure, and sports, just to name a few. Each massage is done differently depending on the patients needs. A massage can last as long as two hours or be as short as fifteen minutes; this also depends on the needs of the patients.
Massage therapy goes along with aromatherapy, the use of scents to help the body relax and feel rejuvenated. This is due to the oils, lotions and candles used on the body and in the room during a massage. The oils and lotions are applied to the skin and massaged in slowly, this allows the muscle to relax and take in the oil and feeling. The candles are used to help you relax, this will also allow you to unwind and take in the scent of the room, which in turn allows you bring the environment closer to you.
No matter what type of massage you need or would like to try, you can find a well known massage therapist on line or in your local phone book. If you would rather go to a spa for a massage you may like to ask a few of your girl friends to join you. This will allow you to have a “Girls day out”.
