Creating The Perfect Bathroom For Your Child

If you need to decorate your kid's bathroom, you have some unique challenges ahead of you. Young children use the bathroom in general much more often than older kids do, and are often accompanied by a parent. That makes a kid's bathroom much more used in general than those mostly used by an adult. However, most parents don't know how to decorate their kid's bathroom so that it's whimsical and "fun." Children can be very verbal about what they don't like, so if you're the parent of a young child, you might find that your kid disagrees with your design choices. We'll offer some tips and tricks so that you can decorate your kid's bathroom in a way that you'll both like.

Knowing The Gender Behind The Decorations

If your child is a boy, you can decorate the bathroom so that specific interests are appealed to, such as cars, bugs, cowboys, and so on. If a young girl uses the bathroom, perhaps a princess or doll theme would be appropriate. Of course, your own child's tastes will be the most important consideration, so if your little girl likes to play with blocks and trucks, so be it. Of course, most of this consideration goes out the window when children of both genders are going to be using the bathroom. If that's true, then the bathroom itself should be kept in a neutral theme but still appeal to the kid's interests. Whatever the theme, you can accessorize in a variety of different ways.

What Accessories And Decorations Can Be Used?

There are a large number of different accessories which you can use to decorate a child's bathroom. If your child is into cars, you can get a bathmat and shower curtain with cars on them - this will generally be available as a set. If your child is a Disney fan, then you can get a bathroom rug with their favorite Disney characters.

Toothbrush tumblers are another consideration, and come in literally hundreds of styles. For example, you could buy a dinosaur-shaped tumbler, or one of Cinderella. Lotion pumps or hand soap can be bought to fit within your chosen theme, too.

Doorknobs, wastebaskets, soap dishes and tissue dispensers can be found which will cater to the interests of any child. For instance, you can replace the knobs on any cabinets or drawers in your child's bathroom to ones which will appeal to them. Clowns, animals, cars - really anything which interests your child can be readily adopted as a bathroom dcor.

A Bathroom That Grows With Your Child

It's no secret that your child's tastes will change as they get older. Your child's dcor and accessories will likely change right along with their interests. From soap dispensers to bathmats, shower curtains to doorknobs; even the tumblers can be changed to grow right along with your child.

You should avoid the use of decorations which will be hard to switch out as your child ages. A wallpaper pattern of giraffes may be very appealing to a four year old - but less so when they are twelve. This will leave you with wallpaper you'll have to replace when your child outgrows their obsession with giraffes.

Ultimately, decorating a kid's bathroom is only limited by your imagination. There are so many accessories available to decorate with that the true challenge is deciding which to use. The key to creating a bathroom that will delight your child is to know their interests and buy decorations that are easy to change as your child gets older. With a little planning and imagination, you can create the perfect bathroom for your child.
