Your shower curtain is more than just a practical bathroom necessity for keeping the water off the floor. They are also important to the design and general atmosphere of your bathroom. Picking the right material

They come in different materials, and each one of them has its own advantages and a few disadvantages. Vinyl is the most common material and the most popular material used. It is a highly durable, waterproof plastic material designed for moist areas such as your bathroom. A vinyl shower curtain is easy to clean, relatively inexpensive, and good in keeping the water away from the floor.

Fabric is another material used, and is a stylish substitute to vinyl. However, not all fabric ones are waterproof; some require a vinyl lining to protect them. Other materials include nylon, silk, leather and even lace. These materials tend to be a lot more expensive and require special cleaning and caring.

Shower curtain cleaning

So now you know the different materials they come in. Since they are made differently, their cleaning and caring requirements greatly depend on what they are made of. A vinyl one may be cleaned with a mold and mildew cleaner, or an ordinary bathroom cleaner. It may also be washed with warm water and scrubbed with a scouring pad together with a mixture of bleach and mild detergent.

If the material is delicate, such as silk, you may need to wash it as you would delicate clothes. You can either wash it by hand with a mild detergent or on your washing machine in a delicate cycle.

Picking an appropriate design

There are a lot of designs to choose from and with a dizzying mix of colors. Before picking a design, look at your bathroom carefully. Note the flooring your bathroom has, the material, style and the fixtures too.

It will help if you consider your personality and which patterns or designs go well with it. You spend minutes in the bathroom daily showering, brushing your teeth and answering the call of nature. It should not be devoid with the look that fits your character well and good. Does your personality call for a boldly patterned, post-modern, or photographic shower curtain? It will also help if you take snapshots of your entire bathroom to help you see it in a different perspective.

Selecting a color that will work

It is best if you take color samples of your bathroom and the materials in there when you go hunting for a shower curtain. Find one that will work well with the ambience of your bathroom. You might have heard time and again of how colors affect your mood; so if you want to have a great day ahead, you might as well take a shower in the morning with a revitalized mood.

If after a long search and still you haven’t found the right colors you need, you might as well come up with your own custom shower curtain. You can paint an ordinary vinyl shower curtain with plastic spray paint; or if you prefer to use latex spray paint, make sure you use a primer on the material first and let it dry for an hour.
