Just what is self esteem, and how is it managed? Generally speaking, self esteem is typically considered the way in which a person sees, or values himself, but accepting and respecting this image also comes into play. Self esteem is very important since it determines how we interact with other persons. People with low, or no, self esteem typically do not have any self confidence, nor any faith in themselves, in any manner.
In order for people to evaluate their own knowledge of self esteem, they need to have a clear understanding of what it is so they can recognize their own level of self esteem. Some people may be encouraged to work on improving their self esteem simply buy becoming more knowledgeable on what it is.
Self esteem helps us keep going and helps us to cope with the daily challenges we are forced to deal with. One's self confidence moulds who we are, how we deal with obstacles and how we handle decision making. In our journey through life, this can be our biggest asset
When we have sufficient levels of self esteem, we are far more decisive and the confidence we exude gives us the power to deal with other people and often take on the experience of new things and any associated risks involved. It is the way in which we push ourselves forward in life. However, a high level of self esteem can sometimes be regarded by others as an air of arrogance when in fact it is really only your confidence shining through.
Our behaviours and reactions to not only other people we come into contact with, but also ourselves, are affected by our self esteem. Whether we succeed or fail could ultimately depend on it. Self esteem is important because it helps us go through life confidently and overcome obstacles and challenges.
What Influences a Person's Self-Esteem?
Our self esteem is nurtured and cultivated in part because of the support we receive from our family and friends. The confidence we gain from having a supportive and nurturing environment when we are young will carry over into adulthood. Adults with poor self esteem can get an ego boost from helping and supporting other family members.
Children and teens may not know exactly what self esteem is, but they can still develop good self-esteem. It can also be difficult for adults who do understand low self esteem to cope with it. Encouragement and guidance can help people gain self esteem and become more confident in all aspects of their lives.
