There are many kinds of motorcycle helmets; there are good points and bad points for each one. These helmets not only shield the head from harm but also feel nice to wear. Each characteristic should be thought of in the decision to purchase a motorcycle helmet. Lets look over the numerous kinds of these helmets.
A full- face helmet is probably the most used kind of helmet. The helmet of this kind engulfs not only the head but offers protection to the face. As far as motorcycle mishaps go 1/3 of all mishaps have resulted to injury to the face. Considering this fact anything that helps keep the face from being injured is most welcomed. These helmets protect you well cut are not necessarily built for comfort. They have been accused of causing the neck to be hurt. These claims are however unsubstantiated.
A helmet called a half helmet is available bit is the least safe of the helmets okayed in the USA. A bit like the open face helmet design the half helmet is round and protects more the top of the head. Offers poor protection to the lower head area and neck. Virtually no facial protection at all which is not very safe conscious. The other negative to this helmet is that it moves on the head due to its shape.
One helmet that gives good head coverage but leaves off the face and chin protection is an open face helmet. This has the effect of allowing the rider the safety of protecting the face. These helmets most of time do not have a visor but sometimes are fixed to allow the rider to attach one. The riders of motorcycles seem to have this helmet on their preferences list of helmets.
Maybe you would like a flip up visor on your helmet? The flip up helmet offers this along with covering the face, chin and head. With this helmet you can just simply lift up the face and chin guard. This gives you the best of two helmets combined in one by offering the total functionality that the full-face is along with the fact of ease to get to your face when needed as in then open face one.
For the sport of motocross a helmet has been designed that has some similarities to the full-face helmets. But with the visor and chin guards being expanded this is where these two helmets are not similar. Part of the visor is created in such a way as to allow users to wear goggles replacing the visor. The chin guard is designed for added function as motocross riders fall a lot in motocross and often land on there face and added protection is given through the design of this helmet.
One of the motorcycle helmets that are not approved for safety because it does not qualify is the beanie helmet. But they look close enough to the legal helmets to fool some. These helmets are worn by riders who do not like the heaviness of the true safety helmets but don't want to get a ticket by not having a helmet is not advised. Research and try on helmets to find which of the many motorcycle helmets you feel comfortable in while being protected.
Unless you just have a hard time making up your mind there are enough different types of motorcycle helmets on the market today to accommodate you. One tip to use in deciding is to consider how daring you get with your motorcycle travels to help with how high a functionality you need in your helmet. The main idea to get into your head about helmets is that you need to wear them every time you ride to safeguard yourself against injury. Umber one on your list should always be safety.
