The Costa Del Sol which has more than 150km of coastline is the most popular tourist destination in Spain with tourists from around Europe and the world. The main reason for its popularity is that it offers good weather nearly all the time throughout the year.
This part of Spain is separated into two distinct areas both of which extend out east and west from the capital city of Malaga Province, Malaga City. On the eastern side you will find that the province stretches for 54km from the city of Malaga and heads towards Grenada.
Whilst the other 100 km of coastline which runs from the west of Malaga city and stretches all the way to the border with the Province of Cadiz. It is this part of the coastline which has been developed and where most of the tourists coming to the region will stay.
The airport in Malaga is one of the busiest in the country and each year has more than 2 million visitors passing through its gates. These people will then head off to many of the resorts that stretch along the province's coastline the main ones being Nerja, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola and Marbella.
The vast majority of those who come to the Costa del Sol will spend time relaxing on the beach this area of Spain has plenty more to offer to its visitors. In fact today this area has become a popular destination throughout the year with those who enjoy playing golf. The region now has more than 70 golf courses which can be played at and is earning a new name of "Costa del Golf".
But along with the golf there are plenty more activities one can enjoy from sailing, to scuba diving, to dolphin safaris and horse riding. Certainly if you want a little more excitement then a visit to some of the areas further inland should be considered.
If you are someone who has been rock climbing before the Province of Malaga offers a location called El Chorro. This is a very popular location in Spain with climbers from around the world and is especially popular with them during the winter months.
If you want to spend more time just relaxing then Marbella, Benalmadena and Torremolinos are the ideal resorts for this. Along with beautiful beaches there are plenty of great bars and restaurants where you can sit and eat and drink and just watch the world go by.
Malaga is very much a commercial city at heart but still has plenty to offer those who visit the city for a day. Along with the Port and Old Quarter, one can take in the Roman theatre and the Moorish Palace. Plus this is where the world renowned artiste Picasso was born and lived and so time should be taking to visit the Picasso Museum whilst in Malaga.
Certainly as you can see from above when it comes to the Costa Del Sol there is so much more to it than a beach holiday. As anyone will testify who has already been to this area of Spain it really is a wonderful vibrant place to visit.
