Ukraine is located in Central Europe and it is a unitary state. There are 24 provinces which named “oblast” are included into that country, but there are also 2 urban districts that are considered to be separate provinces: the metropolis of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol. Ukraine became a semi-presidential republic only several years ago. This is the consequence of an orange revolution of 2004. Now the system of government in this country has a very interesting structure: the authority is divided between several branches of authority. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian boundary is the longest one it is from North and East. There are 2 mountain systems in Ukraine: Carpathian and Crimea, Crimea mountains are younger and lower. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and separate it into two nearly identical parts. Owing to the river Ukraine has the most of its hydroelectric energy. The winters thanks to the soft climate are not very cold. It snows frequently and most lakes get covered by ice. The mild climate in summer includes a huge amount of rainy days, but there are a lot of hot and dry days too.
Owing to favorable terms, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and well developed agriculture. The well improved agricultural area permits Ukraine to export their production to many countries. It exports sugar, corn, vegetables, etc. Kiev is the metropolis of Ukraine and the largest city of the country. It dates its history since the 5th century. All the Slavic civilizations rose from this city. It was founded as a small trade town but it has developed into the fabulous modern megapolis. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and fully destroyed, it lost its eminence for a long period. However, industrial revolution helped the city regain prominence. In times of the Soviet Union Kiev became the capital of Ukrainian Soviet Republic. The population of Kiev is increasing at a high speed and according to the census data in 2003 it was nearly 3 million people. We may not even nearly estimate the number of various nationalities which are included into this wonderful city. Not less than 120 ethnic groups live here. The government of the Soviet Union developed the building of the real estate in Kiev that became the result of rapidly growing population. During the period of the independence Kiev has been changed a lot. Now there are a lot of high-class luxury hotels and chic restaurants among old buildings of the Soviet epoch.
Ukraine economics gains power after the period of post Soviet problems. Nowadays Ukraine is very respectable country which is known not as a part of the Soviet Union, but as autonomous country. Ukraine is also going to become a member of WTO after it ratifies the covenant.
