Meeting women online is a great way to practice a few techniques that will get you far in the long run. Online dating has the advantage of putting you in control of the situation, and avoiding the awkwardness of real-life rejection. But how do you get her to notice you? Your online profile is the key to success.
There are a lot of do's and don't's when it comes to profile writing. If you take too many wrong turns you may end up wondering why you are not having any luck. The truth is, luck has nothing to do with it. Writing a successful online dating profile is an art, and it is not as hard as you think.
Knowing what to avoid is as important as knowing what to include. These common mistakes will generate a complete lack of interest. Making a big show of being a "nice guy" is a huge bore, because you will end up sounding like everyone else. Including too many personal details is also a losing tactic. Posting a picture that is poorly lit, old, or completely unflattering is not going to do you any favors. If you do the above, you will find yourself wondering why no one is responding to you.
Okay, so if these are all no-no's, what can you do to ensure success? Good question. Start off by making yourself sound confident and fun, not needy and desperate. In other words, hook them with humor.
In his book, "Double Your Dating," David Deangelo refers to a type of humor he calls "cocky-funny". This technique works online and in real life. Try it and see. You need to make a girl feel like you are something special by keeping her on her toes a bit. Maybe you say, "Hot stud seeking supermodel to feed me peeled grapes." Knock them off balance by saying something unexpected and humorous.
Next, keep it brief. You want to leave as much as possible to the imagination. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT tell them your life story. This is a huge turn off. Be vague, and leave them guessing. For instance, instead of listing your profession, simply write "why don't you ask me?" This is guaranteed to generate more interest than "accountant".
And finally, get her attention with a knockout photo. Your photo might reflect your interests, highlight your best features, or just demonstrate a talent, but it needs to fulfill a few criteria. It should be fairly accurate and well-lit. You want her to see the real you, in your best form.
So, as a quick review for your profile: be "cocky and funny", be mysterious, and use an image that generates interest. By sticking to these very simple guidelines, you will have more success with online dating than you ever thought possible.
