Sources of Alternative Fuel Could Be the Future's Energy

If we're going to be responsible, one of the most important things we should focus on is alternative fuel. Finding new fuel sources could be a vital part of leaving this world in the best shape possible. The environment is being heavily polluted by emissions produced by burning petroleum products. Here are some of the possibilities when it comes to new, alternative fuels.

Conventional fuel sources are getting a lot harder to extract, and using them heavily over the past century means that there's not as much oil as there once was. Now, people are getting a lot more worried about available fuel options. There's concern that we'll soon run out of petroleum, and a crisis will begin.

Fortunately, there are a number of other options that could be a viable solution. Science may be able to offer us a great commercial solution that will be readily available, friendly to the environment, and not too expensive.

One popular alternative fuel is bio-diesel. This is a diesel-like product extracted from plant matter, which can be burned in an ordinary diesel engine. Another similar product is called E-85. This partly renewable product is made up of eighty-five percent ethanol and fifteen percent conventional gasoline. However, it cannot be burned by all cars.

However, neither of these fuels is a magic bullet. They still cause pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, and require a lot of plant matter. The most popular choices are corn and soybeans, meaning that as production increases, these plants will become less available as food for humans. This has already caused problems in poorer locations.

Presently, electric cars seem to be the best alternate fuel source that we have, if we are to conserve our natural fuel sources. They are efficient because all of the electricity that they need can be generated at one central location. It is a much better option than consuming petroleum derivatives and polluting more by using small and inefficient combustion motors. Electricity can be produced in any manner that suits the needs on a particular location depending on the resources it has. One can use coal, hydro-electric or wind to produce this electricity that is required for electric cars.

Of course, muscle power has always been the ultimate alternate power source. Using your own legs on the pedals of a bike not only reduces pollution and helps you avoid using up fossil fuels, but gets you some exercise, too. There are lots of problems with other alternative fuel sources. For instance, bio-diesel and E-85 aren't easy to find, and won't work in all cars. Electric cars have a short range, and aren't very fast. For a short to medium trip, pedal power beats them all.
